Provocative and committed, fashion brands are promoting the feminist cause. Between Body Positive, No Photoshop and Empower Women, women are at the heart of the positioning of French feminist brands.

But what is being a feminist in 2024?

To be a feminist in 2024 is to be aware of inequalities around the world. The start of feminist movements dates back to the 1910s. They allowed the right to study, to vote, to work, to assume responsibility.

But what rights are women fighting for today? The best known is equal pay. But it goes much further than that. Today the feminist movement wants to break the primary image of women: a hyper-sexualized beauty object or a mother of a family.

Brands have decided to participate in this fight through innovation for women (menstrual panties), through their commitment to associations or through their brand universe.

We are going to introduce you feminist brands that caught our attention.

Meuf Paris: the brand that empowers women

The team had the opportunity to meet them thanks to Pop-up store Planet Meuf opened last November.
Many know them thanks to their sweatshirts and T-shirts worn in Angèle's Balance ton Quo video for “The Anti Sexism Academy”.

Claire Suco is the founder of Meuf Paris. Initially intermittent from show business, she left the cinema to launch her brand in order to give women confidence.

“I want to empower women through the clothes they wear”

So these are T-shirts, sweatshirts and socks with positive and feminist “warrior” “badass” messages.
It is an ethical and feel-good brand; really committed, not afraid to speak up. Claire Suco and her team regularly post “rants” on her Instagram. Provocative and irresistible, we can only validate the whole universe of this brand.

Bombo: The Witches' Panties

Three friends associated since September 2019, Laurine, Fanny and Noëllie wanted to align their 3 planets on a specific subject: feminism. They began to be interested in female intimacy and wanted to choose the thing that was closest to it: panties.

To create a feminist brand that is different from the others, they partnered with illustrators. Each collection is in collaboration with an illustrator who interprets the diversity of women's bodies, their intimacy and their sexuality.

Their brand universe is well worked out. They draw a parallel with witches, who have become a symbol of women's liberation: “underwear for witchy witches”. And their name, Bombo, which refers to Hecate, the goddess of witches, aka Bombo the Triple. It is this spirit of independence and witches' rebellion that is found in this brand.

Mina Storm: comfortable and comforting lingerie

We discovered Mina Storm during our competition to be part of our concept store at the end of 2017, they finished 2nd in the public prize.

The Mina Team was created by Samantha & Chloé when they left school in 2016. But it had been on their minds for much longer.
They created their “comfortable and comforting lingerie.” Underwear is designed to be comfortable and fashionable for young girls and women. Since their creation, they have committed themselves by advocating Body Positive and refusing to retouch their photos so that each woman can recognize themselves in their model. All their models are selected on their social networks without any body criteria. A brand that wants to help women gain confidence.

Feminists certainly, but not only. Their production is slow fashion with limited editions in order to fight against overproduction.

Superb: the panties revisited

Mélanie Daries is at the origin of the Superbe project. With lots of ideas in mind and the desire to create with her own hands, she embarked on the adventure and joined forces with Sonia Taboubi-Béji. In June 2017 they produced their first panties seen as a fashion accessory.

They wanted to revisit the panties as a piece of desire or as a comfort piece like Petit Bateau. They were inspired by feminine morphologies and curves. Their panties are suitable for high and low waisted and available in several colors: silver, gold, rose gold, velvet...

Superb is also swimsuits, bodysuits, bras... The young brand has created two collections to adapt to wallets: the couture and ready-to-wear collections. Always keeping their mentor in mind: “Be who you want to be.”

Septem: feminist combinations

Jessica Troisfontaine fondatrice Septem

Jessica Troisfontaine, working as a business law lawyer, out of passion for clothing, launched Septem in 2017. It's about ready-to-wear and especially jumpsuits. The designer wanted to create a variation to accompany women in every moment of daily life: a combination to gain power.

Around the brand, the Septem team created a community, “the Septem Girls”. On its blog, the brand created a series of portraits of determined women. Equipped with their Septem jumpsuit, they tell their stories and experiences: from Joyce Jonathan to Justine Hutteau via Siham Jibril. They have all taken over their lives, and this is what Septem wants to show through its collections and its universe.
They also follow trends and put on the podcast with the Septem Club by honoring women.
