Carrefour opens a pop-up store in Brussels
A Carrefour pop-up store in Brussels: a European first in the retail sector
In a rapidly changing retail market, Carrefour, one of the world leaders in mass distribution, is opening its first pop-up store dedicated to second-hand goods. This innovative initiative, which opened its doors on 17 April in Brussels, marks a turning point in the European retail sector.
The booming second-hand market: an opportunity for traditional retailers
The rise of the second hand
Fuelled by an awareness of the impact of overconsumption, the second-hand market is constantly growing. Indeed, according to Global Data, its Turnover in France is estimated at 5.5 billion dollars in 2023, representing an exponential growth of 104% in five years.
Second hand is firmly rooted in French consumer habits. The number of French people selling second-hand goods (36%) is almost equivalent to those who buy (40%), highlighting a true circular economy.
Faced with this emerging trend, retail chains must innovate and adapt to meet new consumer expectations.
Carrefour Reeborn at the forefront of innovation
In this dynamic, crossroad stands out by launching His very first Pop-up store dedicated to the second hand : Carrefour Reeborn. Launched in November 2023, offers an online platform and an application allowing the sale and purchase of second-hand items. Individuals can sell their goods there, while Carrefour stores can also sell their stocks of non-food products. Located in Brussels, this innovative concept opens up new perspectives in the European retail sector.
Increased sales potential thanks to the pop-up
Users register on CReeborn Crossroads and publish their articles on the online platform. Thanks to the pop-up they can increase their chances of sale by displaying their products in the pop-up shop. If a customer wishes to acquire one of the items displayed in the pop-up, they can easily do so via an available digital terminal. The seller then instantly receives payment for the item sold.
In addition, the pop-up shop offers a coworking space with free Wi-Fi. For short gourmet breaks, coffee and a Carrefour Buybye point of sale are available.
A commitment to more sustainable retail
Rethinking our buying habits: towards a more responsible retail market?
As a company committed to the transformation of retail, at Nestore, we are convinced that the future of retail requires more sustainable practices and chiefs. This initiative seems to reflect Carrefour's commitment to more responsible trade. The brand is responding to growing demand while helping to reduce the environmental impact of its activities.
What is certain is that large retailers still have a lot of progress to make in terms of CSR, and distinguishing a simple communication coup from a real intention to act remains delicate.
